Welcome to the 43rd North Leeds (Phoenix St Mary’s) Scout Group. We are one of the 17 Scout Groups in the North Leeds District and maintain a Beaver Colony, Cub Scout Pack and Scout Troop in the Hawksworth Wood area, Leeds 5.
The 43rd North Leeds Scout Group began life in 1965 as the 43rd North West Leeds (Burley), meeting in the Scout HQ at the bottom of Burley Park. In 1979, the building was destroyed by fire; the Group survived and managed to rebuild our HQ, and became known as the 43rd North West Leeds (Burley Phoenix) Scout Group. In 2004 the local population was changing as the majority of local housing was becoming student accommodation, so the Group moved to a new base to the Hawksworth Wood estate, changing its name again to the 43rd North Leeds (Phoenix St Mary’s) Scout Group. Since then, the Group has continued to provide Scouting to the young people both on the estate, and neighbouring areas.
The 43rd North Leeds (Phoenix St Mary’s) Scout Group is an active Group focusing of FUN, ADVENTURE and ACHIEVEMENT. We want all our members to experience new adventures, and to learn life skills whilst having fun; we want all our members to achieve things whilst they are members in the Group – and we want all our members to thoroughly enjoy everything they do! Just look at the Gallery to see what we do!
In 2017, as a Group, amongst the many activities we expect to organise, young people in our Scout Group will have the opportunity to go abseiling, canoeing, camping, climbing, firelighting, cooking, biking, caving, making backwoods shelters, pioneering, sleep under the stars, go to Switzerland, complete expeditions, hike in the Alps, complete treasure hunts, play wide games, try shooting, do archery and axe throwing, go on a high ropes course, gain badges, go swimming, tobogganing . . . and have a lot of fun whilst doing them!
